COMMITTEE MEMBERS

CHAIRPERSON & MENS CAPTAIN PAUL BARRON

I first started to enjoy adventurous and challenging activities in my twenties when I first participated in a 100 mile canoe trip on the Trent. During the next decade I had a go at rock climbing, caving, skiing, sailing and other outdoor activities.
In the 90's I ran a few marathons and climbed a few mountains. I have also been involved in football, Table Tennis and Bat and Trap (I'll have a go at most things).
I like to challenge myself but I am not too disappointed if I stumble on the way. I believe achievement is in the involvement
I have made lots of new friends in the Tri Club, it has given me another focus.

SWIM COACH & LADIES CAPTAIN CHRISTINE JOHNSON

Been competing in triathlon on & off since 1993. Having raced as a Junior & Senior at International Elite level, I now just enjoy our wonderful sport and take part for fun & try not to take it too seriously!
This year due to a career change, I will be pretty quiet on the competing front. However, I will be busy coaching at the club on a regular basis. Being an A.S.A Swim Teacher & BTF Coach, I am very keen to help members improve their swim times for triathlon and become a more efficient swimmer.
Having been told by a good friend that I need to do an Ironman before I start falling apart (as unfortunately not getting any younger) I have pencilled in Austria 2011 – oh my word! I then can retire!

SECRETARY JIM HAWKINS
Renound for competing in the "toughies" of the multi-sport world - Jim is the only ATC club member to have completed the infamous "Helvellyn Tri" twice - how mad is that!!!
Looking very pensive (above), Jim will be taking on the more sedate role of Secretary.

MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY ADRIAN HEATHFIELD
I have been involved in sports from a young age, ranging from Pairs Skating to Kickboxing and just about everything in-between.
I had always wanted to do a triathlon but couldn't swim more than a length or two but while receiving long term treatment on a shattered leg started swimming with a frame on the leg and managed to get to a reasonable standard.
In 2009 after the frame was removed & over six years of treatment I was back jogging and entered my first couple of triathlons, I am never going to be quick but I will always get there eventually!
I am back in a frame after needing more treatment on my leg but am still keen to keep as involved in triathlon as possible, I & my frame will continue with my swimming in 2010.

TREASURER TERRY FOREMAN
Better known for his appearances for the GB synchronised
skipping team, a 20 year career as a desk jockey was a good
grounding for triathlon. First event was a very cold and wet
duathlon at Fowlmead in Feb 2006 where he came dead last by
a country mile – progress since then can best be described as
slow!

KIT AND RESOURCES KATE KEENE

I joined the club last year and completed the ladies Try a Tri in East Grinstead. I was delighted to have come 9th and couldn't have done it without the support of the club. I am now in training for a longer triathlon this year.

CO-OPTED MEMBER TERRY CRITTENDEN

I started triathlon in 2000. I come from a high level of inexperience and incompetence in all three triathlon disciplines which is tempered only by enthusiasm. Up until 2007 this had been a solitary pastime, so I joined the Ashford Tri in 2008. I found the club members to be a friendly and welcoming bunch and I have enjoyed the past year.
Of particular benefit has been the support and encouragement during training and competition.
Over the coming year I hope to give something back to the sport through the committee and by taking a coaching qualification. Triathlon is a great sport that can be enjoyed at any level and can provide the opportunity for personal development, both physically and intellectually. Have fun.

PRESS OFFICER PHIL BOOTH

I joined the club in February 2009 after racing with and losing to a certain Paul Barron in both the 2007 and 2008 Club Duathlons.
With no immediate plans to do a triathlon, 3 months later after much encouragement from other members I was competing in my first Sprint Triathlon.
I've since raced with the club at road cycle time trials, sportives, cross-country and road running. I've enjoyed some great training sessions and social events but not much swimming.
With a young family, a forgiving wife and an exciting desk job, training and racing is quite a juggle. (Quick plug - Follow my blog on the forum for juggling tips)
Best described as a novice Veteran with absolutely no ambition to do an Ironman!! As the Press Officer I'm looking forward to receiving your race reports and promoting the club.

WEBMASTER MATT CROSS
Shown the ropes by a friend whilst working in Hove and promptly joined the club after moving back to Kent in April 2009. As a full time desk
jockey it's good to get out and about with a great bunch of people whilst pushing my limits and learning a thing or two about the area I live in. Looking
forward to my first full tri season, and improving on last year's results. Biggest challenge - keeping the site up to date!
